🌊 About the Game
Velaris is an indie game focused on maritime exploration, where sailing is not about speed buttons — it’s about reading the wind.
Instead of controlling the boat directly, players must understand wind direction, positioning, and momentum to navigate the ocean. The world feels alive, with wind currents constantly shifting and shaping the way you explore.
This project is currently in active development, and this page exists to share progress, visuals, and the design philosophy behind the game.

🌬️ Procedural Wind System
The wind in Velaris is generated using a procedural grid system powered by Perlin Noise.
Each section of the ocean calculates its own wind direction, allowing smooth transitions instead of random behavior. Over time, the noise shifts, creating large-scale wind currents that slowly evolve.
This results in a wind system that feels:
- Organic
- Predictable enough to learn
- Dynamic enough to stay interesting

There is no playable demo yet — this page is meant to document and share the journey.

🗺️ Exploration & Mapping
You don’t start with a filled map.
In Velaris, the world begins as a blank chart. As you sail, coastlines slowly appear, routes take shape, and the ocean becomes readable through exploration.

There are no markers telling you where to go.
Instead, you collect clues, fragments of information, and environmental hints that point toward a hidden treasure. Each clue reveals a reference point on the map — an island, a landmark, or a recognizable feature.

By identifying at least three reference points, you can determine the treasure’s true position, just like real-world navigation. The final location only makes sense once you understand the space you’ve explored.

Exploration isn’t about uncovering icons — it’s about learning how the world fits together.

Planned features include:
- Expanded exploration systems
- Environmental storytelling
- Deeper interaction with wind and weather
- Improved UI and user experience
- Fishing mechanics
- Procedural island generation
- Combat mechanics
- The current banner and cover are temporary AI-generated assets, used until the project can afford commissioned artwork
